World War II made a welcome return to video games with the release of Frontline Commando: D-Day, Glu Mobile's free-to-play shooter for  Android. In it, players work their way through 145 challenging missions inspired by real-world events, all in a desperate attempt to squash the Nazi war machine. That said, things get nuts in a hurry. One second, you get trapped behind some crates with a tank barreling down upon your location, and the next, you hop onto a gun turret and waste fighter planes. That's why we rolled up our sleeves and did our part with some cheats and tips.

-Always claim daily rewards, as this is a great way to score supplies without spending currency, real or otherwise.

-Need stars? It's always a good idea to go back and replay missions, especially the earlier (think easier) ones.

-Before sending you into a mission, the developers will suggest the most effective weapon for the job.

-Use grenades and bazookas sparingly. You never know when you'll need them most.

-Don't spend all of your money on weapons. Keep in mind that you'll also need med kits and artillery strikes to complete the toughest levels.

-You can earn free gold by completing different requests, like following Glu on Google+, watching trailers on Hulu or signing up for a variety of services. Look for the "Get Free" button on the in-app purchase screen.

-Avoid staying in one spot for too long; this applies to standing upright or ducking behind most types of cover. Enemies will eventually destroy wooden boxes and sandbags, leaving you vulnerable to attack.

-Complete levels to earn gold stars, which you can then use to unlock new missions. These achievements range from scoring a certain number of headshots to completing a mission in two minutes.

-When using a sniper rifle, adjust the crosshairs on an enemy's head before popping out from behind cover. This makes scoring headshots much easier.

-Always reload from behind cover.

-The more missions you successfully complete, the more XP you gain. Achieve higher levels to access superior weapons.

-Wait for an enemy's health bar to appear before shooting.

-Jump onto a gun turret by pressing the icon located at the bottom of the screen.

-It's much easier to kill enemies by pressing the zoom button on the lower left.

-Whenever your character's on the move, press the right and left sides of the screen to avoid objects, especially dangerous landmines.

-When prompted, tap the icon to jump over crates and other objects. Failing to do this will briefly incapacitate your soldier.

-Don't wait for a tank to fire. As soon as it appears, throw grenades and/or use a bazooka if you have one available.
